Duende Mountain Duo
Two veteran performers were looking for a creative outlet to explore their passion for electronic/dance music. The goal was to recreate the sound and feel of electronica and drum n bass live with physical hardware and a human touch. The final product became the Duende Mountain Duo.
For the first three years of performing the Duende Mountain Duo operated under a strict laptop-free formula. Then 2011 saw the adoption of the use of sequencers, samples and computer-based electronic music production techniques to broaden the sound and continue to evolve.
Following in the tradition of Stevie Wonder and Bernie Worrell, the foundation of the Duende Mountain sound is left-handed synth bass lines. Will Stone completes the rhythm section with his unique and tireless style of drumming. A human drum machine capable of quick jungle-inspired snare flutters, classic thumping house and funky breaks. A blend of swirly electric pianos and thick sweeping pads accented with cutting synthesizer lead lines and spatial delays fill out the sound with melody and direction.
The term duende has many different definitions, the simplest being "the ability to attract others through personal magnetism and charm." In Spanish Art the term is used to describe the magic of improvisation and spontaneous creation: "a sort of corkscrew that can get art into the sensibility of an audience..." Seeing as how the start of the duo was based purely on improvisation, Duende was an easy choice.
